Jack Henry McCurry, age 90, 623 Maple Ave., Erwin, Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Erwin and a son of the late Jim and Bertha Phillips McCurry.
Mr. McCurry was a member of First Baptist Church, Erwin. He was a WWII Army Veteran. Mr. McCurry retired from Clinchfield Railroad in 1981 after 30 years service.
His favorite pastime was woodworking and he made many treasured pieces for family members.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Chandler McCurry in 2003; an infant son, Charles William McCurry, and his sister, Hazel Lewis.
Survivors include two daughters: Carol Garland, Unicoi and Jackie Lowman, Jonesborough; three grandsons: Russell Lynn Tipton and wife Nancy, Whitehouse, Tenn., Andrew Garland, Erwin and Eric Garland and wife Beth, Chattanooga; one granddaughter: Dawn Mechele Tipton, Nashville; two great grandsons: David Tipton and Bryson Garland; two great granddaughters: Jayme Tipton and Norah Garland; one sister: Ruth Randolph, Erwin; three step grandchildren: Lisa, Laura, and Mark; six step grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside service was held Friday, July 20, at 10 a.m., in Evergreen Cemetery. Sherrill Gibson officiated.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make memorial contributions may do so to the Unicoi County Animal Shelter.
