Jack B. Britt, 82, of 936 Ninth Street, Erwin, died, Thursday, May 12, 2011 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Unicoi County and a son of the late Paul McKinley Britt and Wanda Barnett Britt.
Mr. Britt retired as general foreman in the Diesel Shop for CRR/CSX Railroad. He was born into, and was a life long member of, First Christian Church where he served as a deacon for fifty years, and was trustee and chairman of the board.
Mr. Britt served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War with the Army Security Agency in Okinawa.
Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Day Britt and son-in-law, Paul Tipton.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Hawkins Britt of Erwin; children: Leslie Bailey Koonce and husband, Richard of Reston, Va.; Vincent Bailey and wife, Robin of Murfreesboro; Paula Britt Tipton of Erwin; grandchildren: Molly Tipton Duncan and husband, Jesse; Maggie Tipton of Erwin; Amanda Bailey and Andrew Bailey, both of Murfreesboro.
The funeral service was held at 3 p.m., Sunday, May 15, at First Christian Church. The Rev. David Roberts officiating.
Interment was held Monday, May 16, at 10 a.m., at Roselawn Memory Gardens.
Valley Funeral Home was in charge.
