Irene Mashburn

Irene Mashburn, age 79, 850 Rock Creek Road, Lot #18, Erwin, went home to be with the Lord at 8:15 p.m. Sunday, December 29, 2013 at Johnson City Medical Center following a lengthy illness. She was born in Erwin, daughter of the late Lawson and Retta Beam Tipton. Mrs. Mashburn was a former cook at the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital and Kentucky Fried Chicken in Erwin. She enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves baseball games, knitting, cooking and listening to gospel music and was a loving and devoted mom and mamaw. Mrs. Mashburn was a longtime member of Evergreen Free Will Baptist Church.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Mashburn.

Mrs. Mashburn is survived by three sons: Terry Lynn Tipton and wife, Debbie, Randy Keith Tipton and wife, April, all of Erwin, Allen Wayne Mashburn and wife, Jennifer, Johnson City; five grandchildren: Terry Lynn Tipton, Jr., Chad Tipton and wife, Shannon, Heather Tipton Sage and husband, Ben, Cody Mashburn and Drew Bailey; five great grandchildren: Austin Tipton, Aaron Tipton, Ryleigh Newman, Emily Tipton and Kase Newman. The family would like to also recognize and say a special thanks to longtime friend, Dan Riddle and to Mrs. Mashburn's special friends at Sunny Crest Apartments.

Funeral service for Mrs. Mashburn will be held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesdsay, January 1, 2014, from the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Earl Edwards will officiate.
Active pallbearers will be Chad Tipton, Dan Riddle, Justin Riddle, Ben Sage, Terry Tipton, Jr. and Austin Tipton. Honorary pallbearers will be Kase Newman and Aaron Tipton.

The family will receive friends prior to the service between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and other times at her home.

The committal service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 2, 2014, at Evergreen Cemetery. Those attending are asked to meet at the funeral home by 12:30 p.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.
