Irene Koerner Frazier, age 90, of, 229 Academy Street, Erwin TN, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2013 at Unicoi County Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Pittsburgh, PA and a daughter of the late Charles H and Famie Koerner of Pittsburgh, PA. Irene was of the Episcopal faith. She attended Carnegie Tech, the University of Pittsburgh and the American University in Washington D.C. During World War II, she was employed by Westinghouse Electric in PA and U.S. Steel Research Lab in Monroesville, PA. Later she worked for the Pennsylvania Joint State Government Commission in Harrisburg, PA before moving to Alexandria, VA. She was employed by The Institute for Defense Analysis, The Police Foundation and The Urban Institute in Washington D. C. She retired from the American Statistical Association in 1986 and moved to Erwin, TN. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Ronald A. Welch of Irwin, PA and her second husband, the late Porter Young Frazier of Erwin, TN.
She is survived by several cousins in Pittsburgh and nieces in Northampton, England. She is also survived by brothers-in-law, Joe E Frazier and wife Patricia of Erwin and Benny C. Frazier and wife Amanda in Linville, NC and several nieces and nephews.
A Graveside service to honor the life of Irene Frazier will be held at 1 PM on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, in the Mausoleum Chapel at Evergreen Cemetery. Reverend Rob Moor will officiate. Those attending, will meet at 12:50 PM, at the Mausoleum Chapel at Evergreen Cemetery.
