Herbert Phillips

Herbert Phillips, age 87, of Erwin, passed away, on Monday, January 22, 2018 at Unicoi County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care. Herbert was a native of Erwin and a son of the late Grant and Carrie (Garland) Phillips. He was a member of Lily Dale Church of Christ, where he was a Deacon and Elder and he taught the Teenager’s Sunday school class. Herbert retired from Clinchfield Railroad after more than 40 years of service. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking and he helped to rebuild the Clinchfield # 1 steam engine. In addition to his parents, Herbert is preceded in death by: his first wife, Lois (Hensley) Phillips; one sister, Ruby Phillips; and one brother, Melvin Phillips.

The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Herbert Phillips in a funeral service to be held at 7:00 PM on Friday, January 26, 2018 in the chapel at Valley Funeral Home. Minister Jeremy Green and Reverend E. L. Wheeler will officiate. Musical selections will be provided by Queenie Wheeler. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 5:00 PM and continue until the hour of service on Friday in the chapel at Valley Funeral Home. A committal service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 27, 2018 in Evergreen Cemetery. Those attending the committal service will meet at Evergreen Cemetery by 10:50 AM on Saturday. Pallbearers will be the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Lily Dale Church of Christ, 1151 Martin Creek Road, Erwin, TN 37650.
