Helen Margaret Day Peterson

Helen Margaret Day Peterson, age 87, of Gastonia, NC, passed away on Saturday, January 19, 2019. She was a Unicoi County, Tennessee native and lived most of her life in Mt. Holly, NC before moving to Gastonia, NC.  Helen was the oldest daughter of the late Roy and Geneva Day. She was a former employee of various Gaston County textile companies including Belmont Hosiery, Pharr Yarn and Catawba Yarn.  Helen was a member of Mt. Holly Church of God in Mt. Holly, NC. Other than her parents Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Magellan Peterson; one daughter, Allison Marie Peterson; one son, David Peterson; one brother, Robert Day; two sisters, Marie Day and Bernice Edney and a cousin, Eva Banner.

Helen  leaves behind to cherish her memories two daughters: Brenda Daly of Gastonia, NC, Sharon Oates and husband, Keith Oates of Gastonia, NC;  eight grandchildren: Michael Peterson of Gastonia, NC, James Peterson and wife, Breanna of Lincolnton , NC, Ryan Peterson and wife, Kristin of Winston Salem, NC, Patrick Daly and wife Elizabeth of McAdenville, NC, Elizabeth Atkinson and husband Steve of Florence, Oregon, and Catherine Peele and husband, Dustin of Kill Devils Hill, NC, Scott Peterson  and Jeff Peterson of  SC;  six great grandchildren: Sydni Peterson of Lincolnton, NC,  Evelyn, John Henry and Wilson of McAdenville, NC and Seaton and Sage of Florence, Oregon; two brothers: Floyd Day of Unicoi, TN, Wayne Day and wife, Linda of Kingsport,TN; two sisters:  Ella Day, Sara Peterson and husband, Dennis, all of Erwin, TN. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends Thursday, January 24, 7 to 9 pm at McLean Funeral Directors in Gastonia, NC.  The funeral service is Friday, January 25, 3:00pm at the Mt. Holly Church of God, Mt. Holly, NC, with Pastor Dennis Bean officiating.  Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery in Mt. Holly, NC. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Gaston Hospice would be appreciated.
