HAZEL WOODWARD PRICE
Hazel Woodward Price, age 83, Chestoa Pike, Erwin, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, in Unicoi County Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness. She was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a daughter of the late Jake V. and Minnie Ledford Woodward.
Mrs. Price was a member of Pathway Free Will Baptist Church and was a retired seamstress for Industrial Garment Company.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons: James Shelton and an infant, David Price; one daughter: Debbie Higgins; one grandson: James Higgins; two brothers: Cecil Woodward and Lynn Woodward; and one sister: Wilma Woodward Foster.
Survivors include one daughter: Peggy Hicks and husband Will, Hayes, Va.; one son: Roger D. Price, Erwin; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two brothers: Kenneth Woodward and wife Lynn, Ray Woodward and wife Polly, all of Erwin; three sisters: Alma Simmons and husband Bill, Erwin, Louise Jones, Unicoi, and Mary Nappa and husband Vince, Palm Bay, Fla.; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of dear friends.
Funeral service was held Thursday, Aug. 9, at 2 p.m. in the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Harold Lewis, the Rev. Craig Shelton, and the Rev. Kevin Laws officiated. Special music was provided by Queenie Wheeler.
Interment followed in Martins Creek Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were her grandson, Brandon Hicks, her nephews, Ashley Woodward, Tony Jones, and Keith Simmons, and friends, Charles Johnson and Bud Blankenship. Honorary pallbearers were friends, Toby Bennett, Ronnie Bennett, Scott Fowler, Harry Corn, and Pete Rutter.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make memorial contributions may do so to the family to help defray funeral expenses.
