Harry “Spud” Carpenter Jr, age 74, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at the Johnson City Medical Center. Born on June 14, 1938, he was a native of Erwin and son of the late Harry Sr. and Edith Campbell Carpenter.
He had worked at the former Hoover Ball and the former Superior Hone and retired from the Town of Erwin Street Dept.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years: Judy Harris Carpenter; sons: Harry Todd Carpenter and his wife Jeanette, of Erwin, Michael Scott Carpenter and his wife Cathy, of Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo.; daughter: Kimberly Gay Carpenter and Robert Forsyth of Gainesville, Va.; brother: Bobby Carpenter of Erwin; grandchildren: Derek Osborne of Johnson City, Christy Wilson and her husband Mark of Erwin, Matthew Bigelow and his wife Destini of Missouri, Joshua Bigelow of Missouri, Patrick Carpenter and his wife Jamie of Missouri, Zachary Bigelow and his wife Rebecca of Ft. Carson, Co., Kimberly Bigelow of Missouri, Seth Carpenter, of Missouri; great-grandchildren: Trinity Bigelow of Missouri, Cambree Bigelow of Washington, Matthew Bigelow Jr. of Missouri, Josh Martin of Missouri, Trey Wilson of Erwin, and Breyden Wilson of Erwin.
Funeral service was held at 1 p.m., Monday, Jan. 28, in the chapel of Valley Funeral Home. Jim Walton and Rick Collins officiated. A committal service followed at Evergreen Cemetery.
