Harold Eugene Harris, age 69, 2057 Chestoa Pike, Erwin, died unexpectedly at his residence Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011.
Mr. Harris was a son of the late Millard Harris and Emily Ramey Harris Wilson. He worked in maintenance for Red Kap Industries for 40 years.
He was a Free Will Baptist and a former Sunday School superintendent, Sunday School teacher, and trustee at Canah Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.
Mr. Harris loved the outdoors, where he enjoyed fishing and deer hunting. He had two faithful dogs, Benji and Sadie.
He was a devoted son to his mother.
Other than his father, Mr. Harris was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Harris Lord in 2005.
Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Hazel Marie “Tootsie” Bowman Harris; one son, Timothy Eugene Harris and fiancé, Kim, Erwin; one daughter, Debra Diane Hensley and husband, Johnny, Erwin; one grandchild, Christopher Paul Chandley and wife Amber, Erwin; two great-grandchildren, Caleb Issiah Chandley and Kirstyn Elizabeth Greer; his mother, Emily Ramey Harris Wilson, Erwin; one brother, J.M. Harris and wife Lane, Erwin; three sisters, Norma Ruth Briggs and husband Doyle, Flag Pond, Lois Harris Miller and husband Junior, North Augusta, S.C., and Liza Katherine Snyder, and husband, Duke, Jacksonville, Fla.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 8 p.m. at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Talmadge Brown will officiate. Special music will be provided by David and Penny McNally.
Serving as pallbearers will be David Lingerfelt, Johnny Hensley, Christopher Chandley, Duke Snyder, Tony Lord, Danny Miller, Steve Miller, Jamie Harris and Darrell Harris.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 p.m. until service time and at other times at 2057 Chestoa Pike and the residence of his mother, 1518 Chestoa Pike, Erwin.
Committal services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 23, at 10 a.m. at Jones Cemetery. The family, minister, and pallbearers will meet at the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. to go in procession to the graveside.
