Guy Allen Johnson, age 84, of Nashville, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, after a long illness. He was a native of Washington County and formerly of Erwin, and a son of the late James and Sarah Augusta Love Johnson.
He graduated from Lamar High School and continued on to receive a BA Degree in business from East Tennessee State University in 1956. He was retired from the State of Tennessee Comptroller’s Office, where he worked as an auditor for 30 years.
Mr. Johnson enjoyed traveling and his family. He was actively involved with his church in numerous capacities, including church treasurer and deacon for many years at First Baptist Church, Erwin.
He served in the U.S. Army where he was active duty during the Korean War.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother: Dana Johnson.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years: Ruth Crain Johnson, Nashville; two daughters: Ila Ruth Wilson and husband Rodney, Nashville, Susan Alice Runnels and husband Joe, Jupiter, Fla; five grandsons: Isaac Wilson, Nashville, Will Runnels, Jupiter, Fla., Elijah Wilson, Nashville, Caleb Wilson, Nashville, and Tommy Runnels, Jupiter, Fla.; two granddaughters: Alley Runnels and Courtney Runnels, both of Jupiter, Fla.; and a brother: James David Johnson, Chapel Hill, N.C.
A service for Mr. Johnson was held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 27, in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home. The Rev. Ray Sorrell Jr., officiated.
Interment followed the funeral service at Evergreen Cemetery with Military Honors. Serving as pallbearers were Joe Runnels, Rodney Wilson, Isaac Wilson, Will Runnels, Elijah Wilson, Caleb Wilson and Tommy Runnels. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of First Baptist Church, Erwin.
