Gregory Calvin Banks

Gregory Calvin Banks, age 53, of Erwin, passed away Friday, June 14, 2013 at Appalachian Christian Village in Johnson City. Born September 27, 1959, he was a son of Charles “Red” and Geraldine White Banks of Erwin. Greg was a lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was a member of the former Erwin Emergency and Rescue Squad, was a Wings Air Rescue Medic, then retired after 23 years of devoted service with Washington County 911, serving as a medic and dispatcher. He was passionate in serving the people, keeping a watchful eye and accounting for over 100,000 residents of Washington and Unicoi Counties, his efforts and contributions will be missed and cherished. He loved the simple things in life, but retained a thirst for adventure with his sons and family. A southern gentleman through and through, his legacy and spirit will not be forgotten. He lived life to the fullest with his friends and family, and enjoyed the great outdoors.
He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Gregory Banks in 1991.

Nephews: Roland Banks, Jr. and Ryan Blankenship;
Several aunts and uncles;
Wife: Paula Britt Banks;
Step Daughters: Molly Tipton Duncan and her husband Jesse of Erwin;
Maggie Tipton of Erwin.

The life of Gregory Calvin Banks will be celebrated in a funeral service to be held at 8:00pm on Monday, June 17, 2013 at Calvary Baptist Church with Reverend David Crutchfield officiating. Eulogies will be offered by selected family and friends. Vocal selections will be offered by Gary Amos, Aaron Bennett and Paige Tilson. The family will receive friends on Monday, from 5:00pm until service time at Calvary Baptist Church. A graveside committal service will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 with honors provided by Washington County 911 at Evergreen Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Lt. Nicholas Banks, Benjamin Banks, Jerry Bennett, Roland Banks, Roland Banks, Jr. and Ryan Blankenship. Those attending the graveside service are asked to meet at Valley Funeral Home by 9:30am Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
