George E. Chambers, age 76, 1217 Massachusetts Avenue, Unicoi , passed away June 7, 2014 in the Holston Valley Medical Center Hospital following c omplications arising from injuries sustained in a January car accident. He was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Bud and Sallie Teague Chambers. Mr. Chambers attended the Unicoi Church of God. He was a member of Unicoi Masonic Lodge# 681 F&AM. Mr. Chambers was a civil war aficionado, and enjoyed traveling and hunting.
Other than his parents, Mr. Chambers was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Christine Byrd Chambers in 1995; a daughter, Michelle Chambers; and a brother, Bud Chambers. Survivors include his loving wife of fifteen years, Willa Davis Chambers, two daughters: Melissa Cole, and husband, Burl, Unicoi; Karen Ireson, Kingsport, one son, Michael Chambers, and wife, Karen, Unicoi, one brother, Robert Chambers, and wife, Verna Lee, Roan Mountain, three sisters: Elsie Doty; Betty Street, and husband, Bill, both of Roan Mountain; Tresa Carrier, Hampton, extended family members, which include,three step-daughters: JoAnn Depew, and husband, Wayne, Jonesborough; Debra Doan, and husband, David; Elizabeth Berry, and husband, George, both of Unicoi, 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Chambers will be held Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at 7:00 pm from the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Ronnie Holloway will officiate. The Unicoi Masonic Lodge # 681 F&AM will administer Masonic Funeral Rites. Pallbearers will be Drew Ireson, Frank Ireson, Alan Clouse, Burl Cole, Robbie Doty, Keith Doty, Ryan Cichowski, and Aaron Cichowski. Special music will be provided by grand-daughter Kaitlyn Ireson, & friends Debra Britt, Billie Collins, and Bill Etheridge.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the funeral service, between the hours of 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. and other times at the residence.
The committal service for Mr. Chambers will be held Thursday, June12, 2014 at 10:00 am in the Woodby Hill Cemetery. Those attending will need to meet at the Unicoi Funeral Home by 9:15 am to go in procession to the cemetery.
