Freddie Dean Dougherty Tittle, age 81, 535 Washington St., Erwin, died Saturday April 21, 2012, at 6:15 p.m., at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a lifelong resident of Erwin and was a daughter of the late John Frank and Kate Collins Dougherty.
Mrs. Tittle was a lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was a dedicated Christian who loved her church family. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, mamaw, and sister. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William F. “Bill” Tittle in 1995; one brother: Jack Dougherty; three sisters: Hildred Ivey, Pearl Harvey, and Christine Treadway; two brothers-in-law: Ray Gortney and Ed Ivey.
Survivors include one son, William Douglas Tittle and wife Jan, Johnson City; one daughter: Carol Ann Fender and husband, the Rev. Ron, Erwin; five grandchildren: Douglas Paul Tittle, Johnson City, Tony Fender, Erwin, Jason Tittle, Johnson City, Missy Fender Alford, and husband David, Mason, Ohio, Robin Kate Tittle Archer and husband Eric, Johnson City; seven great grandchildren: Will Tittle, Megan Tittle, Declan Alford, Logan Archer, Eli Archer, Paige Alford, and Ethan Archer; two sisters: Betty Gortney, Richmond, Va. and Hazel Wickman, Ill., and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service for Mrs. Tittle will be conducted at 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 24, from the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Todd Wolfe and the Rev. Tony Birchfield will officiate. Special music will be provided by Inez Chandler.
Active pallbearers will be Jason Tittle, Will Tittle, Doug Tittle, Tony Fender, Eric Archer, David Alford, Ken Treadway, Lynn Treadway, and Kenneth “Jug” McCravey. Honorary pallbearers will be Logan Archer, Declan Alford, Eli Archer, and Ethan Archer.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening prior to the funeral service between the hours of 6-8 p.m.
Committal service for Mrs. Tittle will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 25, in Evergreen Cemetery.
