Franklin Delano “Frank” Wilson

Franklin Delano “Frank” Wilson, age 76, Erwin, passed away at 4:05 a.m. Thursday, October 31, 2013, at home after a lengthy illness. He was born in McVeigh, Kentucky, a son of the late Albert and Ethel Coleman Wilson. He has been a resident of Erwin since 1978. Mr. Wilson, an air traffic controller, was a retired Master Sargent in the United States Air Force. He was a proud veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. After retirement from the Air Force he was employed by Aero Jet for 12 years. Mr. Wilson was a member of McVeigh Baptist Church in McVeigh, Kentucky and attended Evergreen Freewill Baptist Church in Erwin as long as his health permitted. He loved gardening, maintaining his yard and home and fishing.

Other than parents, he was preceded in death by two sons: Steven Franklin Wilson and Mark Alan Wilson; two brothers: William Woodrow Wilson and Albert Wilson, Jr.; one sister, Ruby Marie Hunter; two half brothers: Chilton Wilson and Taylor Wilson and one half sister.

Mr. Wilson is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Sherley Miller Wilson; a son, Brian Scott Wilson, Erwin; a daughter, Becky Johnson and husband, Aron, Johnson City; two grandsons: Andrew Logan Wilson, California and Zachery Jefson, Johnson City; two brothers: John Henry Wilson, Murfreesboro, and James E. Wilson and wife, Jean, Dallas, Texas; two sisters: Lola Gary and husband, Gene, Harriman, Edith Charles and husband, Donald, Indianapolis, Indiana; daughter-in-law, Margaret Wilson, Unicoi. Several nieces,nephews and cousins also survive.

Funeral service for Mr. Wilson will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 3, 2013, from the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Noah Taylor and Mr. Ronnie Adkins will officiate.
Family and friends will serve as active pallbearers.

The family will receive friends prior to the service between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. Sunday.

Interment will follow the funeral service in Roselawn Memory Gardens.
