Florence Culbertson Pierce

Florence Culbertson Pierce, age 74, Unicoi, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2015, in the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital. She was born in Unicoi where she had lived most of her life. Mrs. Pierce was a daughter of the late Taylor and Mary McLaughlin Horton. She was a housewife and a member of the Unicoi United Methodist Church. Other than her parents, Mrs. Pierce was preceded in death by her first husband, Jerry Culbertson, Sr; two sisters, Dottie Blevins and Hazel Jones; a brother-in-law, Sam H. Jones and a sister-in-law, Faye Horton.

Florence leaves behind to cherish her memories her husband of seventeen years, Warren Pierce; three sons: Jerry Culbertson, Jr. and wife, Jamie of Thompson, Ohio; Jamie Lynn Culbertson and wife, Christy of Unicoi; Joel Culbertson and wife, Kim of Murray, Kentucky; two brothers, Taylor Horton of Unicoi and George Horton and wife, Patsy of Elizabethton; four sisters, Edith Perry and husband, Maynard of Melbourne, Florida; Mary Nell Cradic of Morristown; Pat Lonon and husband, Pete of Johnson City; and Sandra Buck of Kingsport; five grandchildren, Jessica Snow and husband, Rodney of Chardon, Ohio; Jenny Harrington and husband, Jeff of Rio Rancho, Mexico; Derrick Culbertson of Unicoi; Matthew McNally of Murray, Kentucky and Kristy Lewis and husband, Richard of Unicoi; ten great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P. M. until the hour of service at the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel, Friday, October 2, 2015. Reverend Roger Mathess will officiate at the 7:00 P. M. funeral service. Music will be provided by Inez Chandler, Organist. The New Beginnings Sunday School Class of the Unicoi United Methodist Church and Johnny Horton will serve as honorary pallbearers. Active pallbearers will be Terry Powers, Robbie Lonon, Matthew McNally, Richard Lewis, Wesley Blevins, Travis Blevins and Jason Buck. The committal service will be held at 10:30 A. M. Saturday in the Horton-McLaughlin Cemetery, Unicoi. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the Unicoi Funeral home by 10:15 A. M. Saturday.
