Evelyn McInturff Grindstaff

Evelyn McInturff Grindstaff, fondly known as Memi, age 95, of Erwin, passed away, on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at the Center on Aging and Health. Evelyn is a native of Erwin and a daughter of the late Hazel (Anderson) McInturff and Clarence and Virginia McInturff. She has been a faithful member of Ninth Street Baptist Church since 1952, where she taught Sunday school for many years. Evelyn loved spending time with her friends and family. She loved flowers and working in her yard, camping, cooking, baking, shopping and quilting. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by: her husband of 51 years, Oscar George Grindstaff; son, Larry Grindstaff; daughter-in-law, Melissa Grindstaff; sister, Billie Nelson; and brother-in-law, Lawrence Nelson.


Evelyn McInturff Grindstaff has left behind to cherish her memories:

Grandson: Mike Grindstaff and wife, Dana;

Great-grandchildren: Zachary and Madison;

Great-great-grandchildren: Sutton and Olive;

Sister: Mary Brown Lynch and husband, Jim;

Niece: Mary Anne Watson and husband, Terry;

Great-nieces: Sherrie Musco and husband, Tom;

Kim Slade and husband, Keith;

Great-great-nieces: Maggie and McKinley Musco;

Great-great-nephews: Mason and Matthew Slade.


The family wishes to offer special thanks to the staff of the Center on Aging and Health for their love and care. Also, to special friends: Jack and Juacquetta Edwards, Chestine Larimer, Ginny Tapp and Grace Erwin.


The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Evelyn McInturff Grindstaff in a funeral service to be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 10, 2018, in the chapel at Valley Funeral Home. Reverend Chris Ward will officiate. Musical selections will be provided by Joey Lewis and Becky Manfull. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 11:00 AM and continue until the time of service on Saturday at Valley Funeral Home. A committal service will be held in Evergreen Cemetery following the funeral on Saturday. Those attending will meet at Valley Funeral Home by 1:00 PM to go in procession. Pallbearers will be: Jack Edwards, Chip Bailey, Jimmy Bailey, David Salts, Wayne Sawyer and Joey Lewis. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Ninth Street Baptist Church.


In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ninth Street Baptist Church, 310 9th Street, Erwin, TN 37650.
