Eva Caroline Allen Nourse

Eva Caroline Allen Nourse, 89, of Evansville passed away at 6:43 am, Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at The Evansville Protestant Home.

Mom was born February 9, 1928 in Erwin, Tennessee, a beautiful town in the Appalachian Mountains. She was the daughter of the late John and Willie (Johnson) Allen. She had 3 older brothers, one younger brother, and an identical twin sister.

Mom met her husband, Paul Nourse, when they were both students at Milligan College in Tennessee. Dad had come there to study for the ministry on the GI Bill. They married in 1947 when Mom was 19, and Dad was 21 years old.

In 1958, Mom and Dad, along with daughters Nancy and Deborah, moved to Evansville, Indiana. Dad became the minister at First Christian Church in downtown Evansville. Eva continued her education at University of Evansville, with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1965, and her Master’s Degree in 1967. She taught at elementary schools in Evansville for many years, retiring from Harper Elementary School in 1991. Mom was a member of First Christian Church for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Harley, Wesley, Damon, and Dr. Charles Allen, and her twin sister, Emma Pacella. Also her beloved husband of 45 years, Reverend Paul Nourse, in 1992, and her dear daughter, Deborah, in 2001.

Eva is survived by her daughter, Nancy Vessell (Gary); grandchildren, Kyle Vessell (Camille) and Kelli Anderson (Eric); Deborah’s children, Kristina Anderson (Nick), Karin Taylor (Terry), Kendra Giles (Lavarus), Robert Gipson (Jessie), and Bradlee Jordan (Chelsea). She is also survived by great-grandchildren: Soleil, Evie, Tyler, Dru, Ally, Trey, Sydney, Lana, Avery, Isaac, Knox, Tucker, Jaxon, Rylee, Jadlen, and Mason. Also, Mom had many close nieces and nephews, and her sister-in-law, Mrs. Charles (Joy) Allen. She is also survived by her beloved dog, the pug Sweetie.

A funeral service and burial were arranged by Boone Funeral Home – East Chapel, and took place April 1, 2017 in Evansville, Indiana.
