Ethel Bennett McCourry, 99 , 880 South Mohawk Drive, died Tuesday, May 3, 2011. She was born January 26, 1912 in Mitchell County, NC. to the late Claude and Texie Peterson Bennett.
Mrs. McCourry was a charter member of Zion Baptist Church. She loved the Lord and served him as a devoted Christian. She loved to spend time gardening and growing flowers. She was an avid reader and quilter.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Loss McCourry Sr., in 1985; two sons: Loss “Noonie” McCurry in 2004, and L.C. McCurry in 1997, and daughter-in law, Beverly McCurry in 2006.
Survivors include two sons: J.D. McCurry and wife Carolyn; David McCurry and wife Anna, all of Erwin; three daughters: Merci Keller, Johnson City; Loretias “Reedie” Griffith and husband Clark, and Aundria Wilson, all of Erwin; two sisters: Ora Herrell, and Jewell Bennett, both of Erwin; 15 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and numerous nieces also survive.
Funeral services for Ethel Bennett McCourry were conducted at 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 4, in the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Earl Ragland officiating.
Special music was provided by Faith Bernard, Jamey Hughes, and Inez Chandler.
Pallbearers selected by the family were Shawn Wilson, Steve McCurry, Drew Howell, Alan Lingerfelt, Terry Honeycutt, and Anthony Miller.
Interment was Thursday, May 5, in Evergreen Cemetery.
Robert Ledford Funeral Home was in charge.
