Elizabeth (Lizzie) Gillis Wilson, age 88, 380 Mountain View St., Erwin, died Sunday, July 1, 2012, at the home of her son Dwight.
She was a daughter of the late William E. and Trula Broyles Gillis. She moved from the South Central Community in Chuckey to Erwin over 70 years ago. Mrs. Wilson was a retired cook at Love Chapel Elementary School after 24 years of service. She was made a lifetime member of the PTA in 1974, Mrs. Wilson was of the Freewill Baptist faith.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Wilson who died May, 1994; one brother, Ray Gillis; one sister, Ruth Gillis.
Survivors include two sons: Norman Wilson, Johnson City, Dwight Wilson and wife Susan, Erwin; three grandsons: Matthew Wilson, Flag Pond, Dustin Wilson, Erwin, and Zachery Wilson, Corpman in the U.S. Navy; one step granddaughter: Kristy Potter, Johnson City; one brother: Oscar Gillis, Chuckey, South Central community; one nephew: Billy Gillis, Pikeville, Ky.; two nieces: Susan Brown and husband Michael and Jeanette Mathes, all of Chuckey.
Funeral service for Mrs. Wilson will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, July 3, at Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Talmadge Brown and Chaplain Johnny Humphreys will officate. Special music will be provided by Allan Foster and Inez Chandler. Active pallbearers will be Harmon Mathes, Norman Brown, Rick Wilson, Tony Campbell, Myron Edwards, and Lynn Willis
Interment will be Wednesday, July 4, at 11 a.m., in Liberty Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. Those attending the service are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:45 a.m.
The family will receive friends prior to the service between the hours of 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the home of Mrs. Wilson’s son, Dwight, 212 Third Street, Erwin.
