Edward E. Sparks, age 80, 120 Banner Street, Erwin, passed away Monday evening in the Ivy Hall Nursing Home following a lengthy illness. He was a lifelong resident of Erwin and a son of the late Handy and Myrtle Hicks Sparks. Mr. Sparks was a member of First Christian Church. He was a proud veteran of both the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Sparks retired from Hoover Precision Products, Erwin, after 29 years service.
Other than parents, Mr. Sparks was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas Sparks.
Mr. Sparks is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Alice Rogers Sparks, two sons: Todd Rogers and wife Vikki, Erwin, and Steven Sparks and wife Tanya, Erwin; one daughter, Gina Haun, Erwin; two bothers: H.J. Sparks and wife, Berdie, Erwin, and Dennis Sparks and wife, Edith, Erwin; one sister, Patricia Sparks, Erwin; eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and one nephew, James Sparks, also survive.
Funeral service for Mr. Sparks will be conducted at 2:30 PM, Wednesday, October, 30, 2013 from the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Harold Lewis will officiate. Special music will be provided by Inez Chandler. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Interment will be immediately following in Evergreen Cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service between the hours of 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM.
