Edna “Mammie” Brummett, age 74 of Unicoi, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 30, 2015, after a lengthy battle with cancer. She passed away at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Edna was loved by everyone that ever met her and she became “Mammie” to them. She was a native of Washington State but had lived most of her life in Unicoi County. Mrs. Brummett was a daughter of the late Hoy and Edith Shelton. She had worked in textile industries for thirty years and was a certified nursing assistant for a number of years. Edna was a member of the Fishery Community Church. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Hardy Shelton and a sister, Charlotte Williams.
Mrs. Brummett leaves behind to cherish her memories two sons, Larry Bud Brummett and wife Sharon and Tracy Dean Brummett and wife, Tammy all of Unicoi; two daughters, Sharon Cochran and husband, Robert and Shelley Bailey and husband, Frank, all of Unicoi; two brothers, Edward Shelton of Spartanburg, SC and Ronnie Shelton and wife, Robin of Unicoi; two sisters, Dee Jones and Lena Onks and husband, Niles all of Unicoi; eleven grandchildren Nathan Cochran, Unicoi, Crystal Doty and husband, Matt of Kingsport, Seth Cochran and Lindsey Allen, Shane Hummer and wife, Melissa, Kayla Hyder, Daniel Brummett, Angelia Brummett, Joshua Tilson, Jay Brummett and wife Brittney all of Unicoi, Shaun Brummett and AshleyShadrick of Erwin and Kortney Bailey of Unicoi; seven great grandchildren, Zack Hummer,Joseph Silvers, Emma Hummer, Thomas “Boo” Brummett, Greyson “Chunkster” Brummett, Maddox “Gerber Baby” Cochran, Bryson “Little Angel” Doty and Baby Girl Brummett to be born in April 2016; se veral nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends Sunday, November 1, 2015 at the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel from 5:00 P. M. until the hour of service. Reverend Rusty Wishon and Reverend Estel Williams will officiate at the 7:00 P. M. funeral service. Music will be provided by Joann Boitz and Gill Moody. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Jeffery Ferrow and David Kmetchel, PA. Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers. The committal service will be held at 11:00 A. M. Monday in the Bell Cemetery, Limestone Cove Community, Unicoi. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the Unicoi Funeral Home by 10:30 A. M. Monday to go in procession to the cemetery.
