Edith Tinker Hawkins

Edith TinkerEdith Tinker Hawkins, age 96, of Unicoi passed away Monday, March 27, 2017 at the Center on Aging and Health. She was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and daughter a of the late Minnie Norris Tinker. Mrs. Hawkins was owner of the former Hawkins Grocery Store and had been employed by Southern Pottery and Thomas’s Men’s Shop. She was the oldest living member of the Unicoi United Methodist Church. Mrs. Hawkins was a seventy-five year member of the Unicoi Order of Eastern Star #276. Other than her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Phil Hawkins on October 21, 1993; several brothers and sisters.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories, one son, Larry Van Hawkins and wife, Betty of Clemmons, NC; two grandchildren: Alan Hawkins and wife, Kim, Shawn Hawkins; three great grandchildren: Gage, Drew and Katelyn Hawkins; several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P. M. until the hour of service on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Dallas Gregg will officiate at the 7:00 P. M. funeral service. Music will be provided by Wayne and Jean Keplinger. Pallbearers will be members of the Unicoi Masonic Lodge #681 F&AM. Committal service will be held at 11:00 A. M. on Thursday, March 30, 2017 in the Roselawn Memory Gardens. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at Unicoi Funeral Home by 10:30 A. M. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Hawkins to Unicoi United Methodist Church, 702 Virginia Street, Unicoi, TN 37692.
