Dwight Whitson, age 65, 322 Odom Branch Road, Erwin, went home to be with the Lord at 3:55 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at Johnson City Medical Center.
He was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County, and a son of the late O. B. and Francis Tipton Whitson.
Mr. Whitson was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. He was a paint and body automobile repairman working with his father at the O. B. Whitson Garage.
Other than his parents, Mr. Whitson was preceded in death by his daughter, Alisha Joy Whitson.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Phyllis Rice Whitson; two daughters, Penny Carter, Erwin, Ginger Johnson and husband, Scott, Unicoi; eleven grandchildren; one brother, Robert “Bobby” Whitson and wife, Jolene, Erwin, Patricia Lewis and husband, Mack, Johnson City. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 1, 2013, in Mountain Home National Cemetery. Pastor Ronnie Holloway will officiate. The Tennessee Honor Guard, consisting of Boone Dam VFW Post #4933 and the Tennessee Army National Guard will provide military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those wishing may make monetary contributions to the funeral home to help defray funeral expenses.
