Dwight Bennett

Dwight Bennett, age 63, 255 Deer Ridge Road, Unicoi, passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2014, in the Johnson City Medical Center. He had lived in Unicoi County most of his life and was a son of the late Claude Jr. and Beatrice Letterman Bennett. Mr. Bennett retired from the National Guard after twenty-six years of service. He retired from Century Link as a service technician after forty years of service. Mr. Bennett was a member of the Unicoi County School Board; the hospital board; a former county commissioner; an alderman for the Town of Unicoi; a Ruritan member; a member of the American Legion and a board member of the Unicoi County Animal Shelter. He was a member of the Rock Creek Presbyterian Church. Other than his parents, Mr. Bennett was predeceased by his first wife, Ruth Ann Honeycutt Bennett.

He has left behind to cherish his memory, his wife, Debbie Bennett; a son, Mark Bennett and wife, Claudine, of Kettering, Ohio; two step-daughters, Lisa Morley of Unicoi and Angie Moore and husband, Jody, of Erwin; one brother, Toby Bennett and wife, Gloria of Erwin; two sisters, Geraldine Norsworthy and husband, Mark, of Louisville, Ky; Glenda Overholt and husband, Sanford, of Newport, TN; four step-grandchildren, Lexis Morley, Trey Morley, Carson Moore and Claire Moore. Several Nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 P. M. to service time at 8:00 P. M. Friday, November 28, 2014, at the Unicoi County High School Auditorium. Pastor Steve Rice will officiate. Music will be provided by Inez Chandler and Jon Shell. Honorary pallbearers will be Trey Morley, Cayden Masters, Larry Masters, Colton Masters, Jamie Bennett, and Tim Foster. Active pallbearers will be Toby Bennett, John Bannister, Ray White, Gary Beam, Bill Hensley, and Junior Wright. Committal service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, November 29, 2014, from the Evergreen Cemetery. Military honors will be rendered by the Kingsport VFW Post #4933. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the Unicoi Funeral Home by 2:30 P.M. Saturday to go in procession to the Cemetery.
