Dr. Jack E. Snider, 89, senior vice president of King College, passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at The Center on Aging & Health, after a long illness.
He was a native of Unicoi County, and the son of the late Isaac Newton and Mary Erwin Snider.
Dr. Snider was a member of the Central Christian Church of Bristol and Green Spring Presbyterian Church of Abingdon, Va. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Science degree in business. He also held a Master of Arts degree in Educational Administration from George Peabody College, and the honorary degree, Doctor of Humanities from Lincoln Memorial University.
He served with the U.S. Army (Airborne) in World War II. After his service in the US Army, he held positions in the Unicoi County School System, and then served as assistant executive secretary for Ruritan National for two years before he joined the administrative staff of King College in 1955.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Widener, who died in 1991.
Survivors include cousins, Howard Street, of Unicoi, Mildred Tapp, of Erwin, Dr. Carol Crumley, of Chapel Hill, N.C., and a multitude of friends.
The funeral service was held Thursday, April 28, at the First Presbyterian Church of Bristol.
Committal service and interment were held Friday, April 29, at Unicoi Swingle Cemetery.
Oakley-Cook Funeral Home was in charge.
