Douglas M. Wheeler, age 73, of Erwin, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2015 at Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Madison County, North Carolina and a son of the late Mattie and Ada Blankenship Wheeler. Douglas graduated from Mars Hill High School in 1960. He worked for the former National Casket Company, G.M.F. Manufactures. He then worked as a bus driver for the Unicoi County School System and Migrant Head Start. Mr. Wheeler retired in 2003. Douglas was of the Baptist faith and was baptized at a very young age. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Vance B. Wheeler and Sam Wheeler.

The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Douglas Wheeler in a funeral service to be held at 8:00 PM, Monday, September 14, 2015, in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home. Reverend Noah Taylor will officiate. Vocal selections will be provided by Queenie Wheeler. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 6:00 PM and continue until service time. A committal service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Evergreen Cemetery. Those who wish to attend are asked to meet at Valley Funeral Home on Tuesday by 10:30 AM to go in procession to the cemetery.
