Douglas “Big Boy” Shelton, age 91, of Erwin passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2022, at the Community Living Center at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. A native of Marshall, NC, Douglas is a son of Van and Martha Shelton. He was a member of Sweetwater Church of God. He was a 20 year employee of Newport News Shipyard and later an employee of Giles Shelton Sawmill. Douglas was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War. He enjoyed bear hunting and was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman, as well as a Bluegrass lover. In addition to his parents, Douglas is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Lee Shelton.
Douglas “Big Boy” Shelton has left behind to cherish his memory: son, Mike Shelton and wife, Flora; one daughter; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and numerous loving friends.
The family would like to offer special thanks to Reverend Craig Shelton, Bobby and Dorothy Shelton, and Roger and Marie Rice for their love and support during this difficult time.
The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Douglas “Big Boy” Shelton in a graveside committal service to be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 in Evergreen Cemetery. Reverend Craig Shelton will officiate. Those attending the committal service should meet at Evergreen Cemetery by 2:50 pm on Wednesday for the service.
