Doran Lee Hill, 59, 737 Young Road, Unicoi, died July 21, 2011, in the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital. Mr. Hill was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Ed and Myrtle Blevins Hill.
He was a machine operator for Morrill Motors for 11 years, and prior to that, worked for North American Rayon for 26 years.
He was a member of Memorial Union Church.
Mr. Hill loved to fish and do woodworking as well as enjoying numerous camping trips with his brothers- in-law. One of his favorite past times was watching old western movies.
He was a loving and devoted husband, dad, papaw and “Uncle D.” He will be remembered by his many friends for his easy going spirit and his warm smile.
Other than parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law Charlie Hill and brother Lawrence Hill.
Survivors include his loving wife of 37 years, Darlene Hill; one daughter: April and husband Michael “Nick” Nickels, of Gray; special grandson: Brady Nickels, of Gray; one brother: Eddie and wife Lisa Hill, of Hampton; mother-in-law: Bessie Hill, Unicoi; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Chuck and Tammy Hill, Darrin and Sharon Vance, Kathy and Dennis Gage, Harry and Debbie Hill, Larry and Michelle Hill, Debbie and the late Danny Garland, all of Unicoi; five nieces: Kristen Hill, Mandy Gage, Ashtan Vance, and Alyssa Hill, all of Unicoi, and Melissa Hill, Hampton; three nephews: Matthew Hill, Adam Hill and Andrew Hill, all of Unicoi.
A celebration of life service was conducted Sunday July 24, at 3 p.m., from the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Scotty Whitson officiated. Eulogy wasprovided by Kristen and Adam Hill and special music by Seth Ferguson, playing the guitar, and Scotty and Bobby Whitson, duet.
The committal service was in the Woodby Hill Cemetery, Limestone Cove.
Active pallbearers were Chuck Hill, Dennis Gage, Harry Hill, Larry Hill, Darrin Vance, Wayne Vance, Nick Nickels and Adam Hill.
Unicoi Funeral Home was in charge.
