Donald Shelby Honeycutt, age 67, of Erwin, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was born in Yancey County, NC but lived most of his life in Unicoi County. He was a son of the late Reverend Joe and Ruth Mitchell Honeycutt. He worked for the Unicoi County Gas Utility District for many years serving as manager from August 1986 until February 1992. As owner and operator Don began Valley Heating and Cooling Company from 1992 until his retirement. He served as Unicoi County Gas Utility District commissioner from 2007 until present. Mr. Honeycutt was a member of Trinity Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Donald is preceded in death by a son, Randal Honeycutt in 1998.

The family respectfully requests the honor of you presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Donald Shelby Honeycutt in a funeral service to be held at 7:00 PM on Friday, August 14, 2015 in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home. Reverend Andy Patterson and Reverend Terry Richardson will officiate. Vocal selections will be provided by Arnie Foster and also by Charity Patterson. A visitation period to offer support and share memories will begin at 5:00 PM and continue until service time on Friday at Valley Funeral Home. A committal service will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Evergreen Cemetery. Those who will attend will meet at 10:50 AM on Saturday at Evergreen Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Hardin, CJ Bryant, Greg King, Matt Bailey, Tim Bailey, Mark Lafever, and Elmer Bryant. Honorary pallbearers will be Dave Rittichier and Fred McCurry.
