Don W. King, age 74, of Erwin, died Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born in Unicoi County, on July 29, 1937, a son of the late Claude and Bonnie Willis King.
Mr. King apprenticed at the former Clinchfield Railroad and worked as a safety coordinator at Holston Ammunition, where he retired after 15 years of service.
He was a member of Centennial Lodge 491 F&AM, Erwin and enjoyed fishing. He was a member of Ninth St. Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife Barbara King on April 1, 2012.
Survivors include a son: Michael King and wife Brandie, Erwin; daughter: Julie Rice and husband Christopher Rice, Jonesborough; brother: Bruce King, Limestone; sisters: Jane Decker, Jonesborough, and Faye Higginbotham of Erwin; grandchildren: Logan King and Kaitlyn Griffin; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held Sunday, July 22, at 2 p.m., at Roselawn Memory Gardens in Johnson City, with the Rev. Todd McLaughlin officiating. Masonic Services were rendered by Centennial Lodge 491 F&AM with Carlyle Love officiating and Chaplain David Burgner.
Active pallbearers were Tony King, Stacy Peake, Josh Kyker, Tim Decker, David Decker, and Travis Church. Honorary Pallbearers were the members of Centennial Lodge #491 F&AM.
In lieu of Flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Jericho Shrine Temple, 1100 Jericho Drive, Kingsport, TN 37663 or Southside Volunteer Fire Department, 1295 Carolina Ave., Erwin, TN 37650.
