Don F. Wilson, age 74, 210 Tennessee St., Unicoi, died unexpectedly Thursday, March 3, 2011, at Johnson City Medical Center.
Mr. Wilson was a Unicoi County native and a son of the late Erful and Venie Lyle Wilson. He retired from Sears Roebuck after 32 years in management.
He was honored two times for his commitment to Unicoi County. In 2007, The Erwin Record awarded Mr. Wilson with its inaugural Record of Service Award for Service to the Community. In 2010, the town of Unicoi presented Mr. Wilson with the Samuel Edmond Leedy Good Neighbor Award.
Mr. Wilson was a member of the American Legion Post No. 25. He served his country with honor as a Korean War Navy veteran.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 49 years, Sharlyne Edmonds Wilson; two daughters, Donelle Mollenhauer, Springboro, Ohio, and Tammy Carls and husband Mike, Columbiaville, Mich.; two granddaughters, Chelsea Mollenhauer and Amanda Carls; one brother, Ed Wilson, Flint, Mich.; and one sister, Mary Van Hove, also of Flint.
A memorial gathering to celebrate the life of Don Wilson was held Saturday, March 5, at Unicoi Free Will Baptist Church from 1-3 p.m. D.H. Garland officiated.
