Dave Holden D. H. Garland, Jr, age 90, of Unicoi, passed away on Friday, November 7, 2014 at Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Garland was born in Unicoi County on September 10, 1924, a son of the late Dave H., Sr and Joann Slage Garland. He was a member of Unicoi Free Will Baptist Church where he had served as deacon for over 60 years. He was a US Army veteran, having served in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Garland was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Parker Garland in 2012, Brothers Lewis, Clyde and Alvin Garland, and sisters, Charlotte Garland, Daisy Anderson and Pansy Wilson, and Grandson, Michael Shane Crenshaw.
D. H. Garland, Jr. has left behind to cherish his memory:

The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we celebrate and remember the life of D. H. Garland, Jr. in a funeral service to be held at 7:00 PM, Tuesday, November 11, 2014 Unicoi Free Will Baptist Church. Rev. Nathan Jennings, Rev. Talmadge Brown and Rev. Brett Jones will officiate. Vocal selections will be provided by Harold McNabb and Nathan Jennings with Diane Gentry on the piano. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will be from 5:00PM 7:00PM on Tuesday at Unicoi Free Will Baptist Church. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the Parker-Garland Cemetery at Buladean Presbyterian Church, Buladean, NC. Those who will be attending the committal service will meet at Unicoi Free Will Baptist Church by 9:15 AM to go in procession to the cemetery.
