Mr. Gilbert retired from the Clinchfield Railroad after forty-seven years of service. Mr. Gilbert was a member of the Unaka Avenue Baptist Church. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Clifford Gregory Gilbert, a daughter,Carla Love Cameron, three brothers R. C. Gilbert, Edward Gilbert and Robert Gilbert, four sisters, Iris Banner, Audrey Higgins, Elizabeth Mooney and Beatrice Helton.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife of sixty-nine years, Allene Love Gilbert; four sisters, Jessie Lee
Tipton and Marjorie Thompson, both of Erwin, Dorothy LeMay of Palm Bay, FL and Betty Keever and husband, Glen of Johnson City; two granddaughters, Rachel Lambert and husband Travis and Lauren Lightfoot and husband, James;
four great grandchildren; sister- in- law, Dollie Gilbert; several nieces and nephews and special friends, Clyde and Darla Duty.
The family will receive friends Friday, February 24, 2017 from 5:00 P. M. until the hour of service at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home. Reverend Jeff Alford will officiate at the 7:00 P. M. funeral service. Music will be provided by Inez Chandler. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Committal service will be held at 10:30 A. M. Saturday in the Evergreen Cemetery. Those wishing to attend are asked to assemble at the funeral home by 10:00 A. M. Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery. Military honors will be rendered by the Boone Dam VFW Post #4933.
In lieu of flowers those wishing may make memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Gilbert to Unaka Avenue Baptist Church, 1213 East Unaka Avenue, Johnson City, TN 37601.
