Clark Jan Laughrun, age 80, from Unicoi, Tennessee passed away on Monday, August 1, 2016 at Community Living Center (CLC) at Mountain Home VA in Johnson City, TN.

He was a longtime Unicoi County resident and had lived in Unicoi County for the last 45 years. He was born April 23, 1936 to the late William and Cora Laughrun in Mitchell County, North Carolina. He attended Happy Valley High School and received a Masters Degree in Industrial Arts from East Tennessee State University. He retired from the Veterans Administration in 1994 after 25 years of service as a Vocational Rehabilitative Therapist. He also was a school teacher for several years in the Johnson City School System.

Clark married the love of his life, the late Linda Slagle Laughrun, in 1962. Clark and Linda had a wonderful marriage for 54 years. Clark was a member of Martindale Baptist Church. He served as a deacon, song leader and Sunday School teacher for his church through the years. Clark was always the first to volunteer to help for any activity involving the church.

Clark enjoyed fishing, UT football, and gardening. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as “Papaw”.

His remaining family includes Jan Laughrun and wife, Wendy of Johnson City and Michael Laughrun and wife Jennifer of Gray. Grandchildren include Mackenzie, Lindsey, Joshua, Joseph, Olivia, Mya and Maleah. Sister Elizabeth Hawkins of Chincoteague, Virginia. Special friends: David and Lisa Lyle and Corben Eller of Erwin.

In addition to his wife and parents, Clark was preceded in death by four brothers Arthur, Floyd, Roy, and Paul, two sisters Lucy Renfro and Lois Ensor.

A special thank you to Drew Turner and all the staff at Community Living Center (CLC) at Veterans Administration. The staff of CLC provided exceptional care for Clark during his time there. The entire staff treated Clark with the utmost kindness and respect. We are eternally grateful to all of you.

The family also wants to thank his caregivers Vanessa Gause, Ramisha Oxendine and Maria Keeley Chambers for their love and kindness as well.

The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Clark Jan Laughrun in a funeral service to be at 7:00 PM, Wednesday, August 3, 2016, in the chapel of Valley Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Laughrun officiating. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 5:00 PM and will continue until service time on Wednesday at Valley Funeral Home. A committal service will be held at Roselawn Cemetery on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at 11:00 AM. Reverend Daniel Broyles and Reverend Delbert Storie will officiate. Those attending will need to meet at Roselawn Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers will be Richard Baker, Arthur Ensor, Joshua Laughrun, Joseph Laughrun, Alan Laughrun and Andrew Garland. Honorary pallbearers will be David Lyle Bob Ensor and Jay Whitson.
