CLARENCE H. “SID” SILVERS

Clarence H. “Sid” Silvers, age 84, 706 Broyles Ave., Erwin, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2011, following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Silvers was a son of the late Willard and Hattie Eller Chirawun Silvers.
He was a Baptist. He worked for Feldspar Co. for nearly 30 years prior to his retirement.
Mr. Silvers’ past enjoyment included fox hunting on Gentry Mountain with friends, who loved the sport as he did. Additionally, he fished and loved spending time with his grandchildren, family, and special friend, Charlie English. Those who knew him were immensely entertained as he loved singing and dancing to folk music.
Other than his parents, Mr. Silvers was preceded in death by an infant son, Russell Wayne Silvers; one daughter, Penny Jane Silvers Tittle in 2004; one grandson, Dustin Lee Tittle in 2005; and two brothers, Roy Silvers and Ted Silvers.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 30 years, Mildred English Silvers; two sons, Bobby Silvers and wife Lyndia, Unicoi, and Ricky Silvers and Amber, Erwin; one step-son, Robbie Lee English and Nancy, Erwin; two daughters, Glenda Gillis, Erwin, and Barbie Briggs and husband, Jody Lee Briggs, Flag Pond; two sisters, Genevieve Tipton, Erwin, and Juanita Silvers, Erwin; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Clarence H. “Sid” Silvers were held at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Edward Hoyle and J.R. Davis officiating.
Special music was provided by Christine Davidson, Gail Shelton and the Wisecarvers. Committal services were held Saturday, Feb. 19, at 11 a.m. in the Upper Higgins Creek Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Josh Lloyd, Jody Lee Briggs, Mark Riddle, Mike Sams, Paul Banner and Junior Buck. Honorary pallbearers were Charlie English, Chad Gillis and
Brian Gillis.
Committal services were held Saturday, Feb. 19, at Upper Higgins Creek Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mildred Silvers for assistance with funeral services.
Robert Ledford Funeral Home was in charge.
