Christine White Stockton

Christine White Stockton, age 85, of Erwin, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at the Center on Aging and Health. She was a native of Unicoi County and a daughter of the late Fletcher B. and Lottie Tapp White. She was a seamstress at Steinway and also worked at Dugger Motor Company, Rule-Brummet Motors and Robbins Motors when she was married to Brady on July 21, 1950. Christine became the mother of twin boys and stayed home with children and helped the family farming for a few years growing strawberries. She was owner of Stockton’s Grocery on Rock Creek Road for about six years. After selling the store, Christine was employed by Texas Instrument for a few years and then took a leave of absence to care for her mother. After her mother’s death she decided to stay home. Brady’s words were “I think that it is time for one of us to retire.” Christine was an active member of Ninth Street Baptist Church and enjoyed the good times with her five grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Christine is preceded in death by her Grandson: Christopher Stockton, Sister: Ethelyn White Black.

The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Christine Stockton in a funeral service to be held at 7 PM, Saturday, October 17, 2015, in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home. Rev. Rob Moor and Rev. Kevin Laws will officiate. A visitation period to offer support to the family will begin at 5 PM and will continue until service time on Saturday. A committal service will be held at 9:30 AM on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Evergreen Cemetery. Pallbearers will be notified. Those attending please meet at Valley Funeral Home by 9 AM on Sunday to go in procession to the cemetery.
