Charlie Griffith, Jr., age 69, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2013 at his residence. He was a native of Mitchell County, NC and a son of the late Conway and Dolly Cooper Griffith. Mr. Griffith served in the United States Navy during Vietnam aboard the U.S.S. Higbee stationed out of Pearl Harbor. Charlie worked for the Unicoi County Department of Education as a school bus mechanic. He was a member of Erwin Church of the Brethren where he served as a deacon, worship leader and song leader. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a sister, Ann Lee Griffith and a brother, Tom Griffith.

The life of Charlie Griffith, Jr. will be remembered and honored in a funeral service to be at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Erwin Church of the Brethren. Brother Randy Griffith and Reverend Kevin Laws will officiate. Musical selections will be provided by Reverend Kevin Laws. Friends are encouraged to express memories of life and times at the conclusion of the service. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Erwin Church of the Brethren on Wednesday. A committal service will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Bennett Cemetery in the Bailey Settlement of North Carolina. Those who wish to attend will meet at Valley Funeral Home by 10:30 AM to go in procession. The men of the family will serve as pallbearers.
