Charles R. Gryder

Charles GryderCharles R. Gryder, age 93, Erwin, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2017 in the James H. Quille n VA Medical Center, Mountain Home. He was a native of Jackson Parish, Louisiana and had lived in Unicoi County since 1946. Mr. Gryder was a son of the late Edgar Franklin and Betty Tabb Gryder. He was a WWII Army Veteran. Mr. Gryder retired in 1983 from CSX Railroad after thirty-seven years of service. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Other than his parents, Mr. Gryder was preceded in death by his wife, Elva Roberts Gryder in 1995; three brothers, Marvin Gryder, Milton Gryder and Elbert Gryder; three sisters, Dale Littleton, Lillian Howard and Jennie Mae Gryder.

He leaves behind to cherish his memories: three sons, Donald Gryder and wife, Barbara of Johnson City, Steven Gryder and wife, Sharon of Erwin and Robert Gryder and wife, Faye of Kingsport; one brother, Ray Gryder of Missouri; four grandchildren, Matthew Gryder and wife Jenny, Jennifer Gryder, Aaron Gryder and wife, Stacy, Crystal Thompson and husband, Marlon; eighteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends Thursday, March 23, 2017, from 5:00 P. M. until the hour of service at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend David Crutchfield will officiate at the 7:00 P. M. funeral service. Music will be provided by Gary Amos, Inez Chandler and Jonathan, Daniel and Anna Crutchfield,. Men of Calvary Baptist Church and Harold Rice will serve as pallbearers. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday in Evergreen Cemetery. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 A. M. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Gryder to Calvary Baptist Church Christian Life Center, 540 Adams Street, Erwin, TN 37650.
