Charles Murphy Scott

Charles Murphy Scott, age 79, of Erwin, died Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born in Unicoi County, Sept. 4, 1932, to the late James Boyd and Rebecca Louise Scott.
Early in his career, he had worked at the former Erwin Hotel, and later at Unicoi County Memorial Hospital in the X-ray department, where he retired after 34 years service. He also served his country in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Scott enjoyed traveling and amusement park rides. He attended the Church of the Nazarene.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother: William Ralph Scott; sisters: Gladys Mumpower, Edith Scott and Laura Lee Scott; niece: Brenda Chandler; great-great nephew: Jason Stancil; great niece: Rebecca “Becky” Lowe; and great-great-great niece: Angel Metcalf.
Survivors include a niece: Pat and Willard Adkins of Erwin; nephews: Carlie and Betty Scott, Carroll and Lisa Mumpower, Joe and Kim Mumpower, all of Erwin; great nieces and nephews: Joyce Stancil and her fiancé Darrell Harris, Angela Cloyd, Wayne Foster, Samuel Baker, Robin and Scott Duncan, Lisa and Jeff Metcalf, Nikieta Mumpower, and Ashley Higgins; great-great nieces and nephews: Brandon Lowe, Ryan Lowe, Sarah Lowe, Emma Leigh Lowe, Ashleigh Duncan, Danielle and Chad Whitson, P. J. and Stephanie Metcalf, Jessica Correa; great-great-great nieces and nephews: Dalaina Ragan, Jocelyn and Sierra Metcalf and Keeleigh Duncan and Destiny Williams.
Funeral service was held on Thursday, July 5, at 8 p.m., in the chapel of Valley Funeral Home with the Rev. Bernie Jones officiating.
Interment was held at Evergreen Cemetery Friday, July 6, at 11 a.m., with military honors provided by the Tennessee Army National Guard and the Unicoi County High School AFJROTC Honor Guard.
