Carolyn Cook Wood, age 88, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, surrounded by her family. She was born in Erwin, on April 8, 1924.
She was a home economist for Westinghouse in her early career. Later she was a substitute teacher for Knoxville City Schools. Her real passion was in her role for many years as volunteer coordinator for Mobile Meals in Knox County.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, James Welch Woods; her sisters: Kathryn Stultz and Ruth Morgan; her parents: George and Kathryn Cook; parents-in-law: Walter and Ziza Woods.
Survivors include a son: James W. Woods Jr. and wife Sandra Derting Woods of Cooksville, Md.; daughter: Dr. Sally Woods and son-in-law, Michael McCawley of High Point, N.C.; grandchildren: Will Woods of Stanford, Calif. and Shane Woods of Seattle, Wash.; special sister-in-law: Doris Owens of Farragut; and a nephew and several nieces and cousins.
A celebration-of-life service will be held at 6:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 14, at Church of the Savior, 934 North Weisgarber Road, Knoxville, with the Rev. John Gill officiating. Burial will take place in Erwin, on Saturday, Dec. 15, at Evergreen Cemetery, at 10 a.m., with Dr. Todd Edmunson officiating.
