Carl J. Jones

Carl J. Jones, age 82 of Hwy 197, Bakersville NC, passed away January 4, 2014 at Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Mitchell County, NC and a son of the late Frank and Mabel Tipton Jones.

Mr. Jones was a member of Tipton Hill Methodist Church. He was retired as a Conductor with Clinchfield Railroad and was a member and Former Secretary with United Transportation Union in Erwin, TN. He was a member of #1162 Local Union.

Survivors include; one daughter; Janice Miller, of Johnson City, TN, three sons; Randy Jones and wife Paula, of Kingsport, TN, Richard Franklin Jones, of Green Mtn, NC, and Tim Eugene Jones, also of Green Mtn, NC, one sister; Pauline Byrd, of Bakersville, NC, five grandchildren; Ben Jones, Katlyn Jones, Adam Jones, Jeremy Lane Hightower, and Michael Jason Jones, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; Ruth Hughes Jones, and two brothers; Phil and Kenneth Jones.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 8:00PM in Tipton Hill School, with Blaine Hughes officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Interment will be Thursday, January 9, 2014 at 1:00PM at Flat Branch Cemetery.
