Buford Shook

Buford Shook, age 74, 1265 Carolina Avenue, Erwin passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a lengt hy illness. Mr. Shook was a native of Madison County NC and was a son of the late Camery and Hattie Shelton Shook. He attended Sweetwater Church of God. Mr. Shook retired in 1991 as a supervisor for Morrell Motors. He was employed with Unicoi County Memorial Hospital as a maintenance worker where he retired in 2002 due to deteriorating health.

Other than his parents, Mr. Shook was preceded in death by two infant sons. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 33 years, Mary Haney Shook; a daughter, Connie Grubb and husband, David, Erwin; a granddaughter, Kayla Grubb; a step-daughter, Susan M. Burry, Murfreesboro, TN; a step-son, Johnny Plemons, Erwin; two sisters: Iva Lee Gray, and husband, Bill, Erwin; Eula Jo McIntosh, and husband, Gerald, Flag Pond, two sisters-in-law: Edith Styles, Burnsville, NC; Elaine Shaffer, Johnson City; four special friends: Dennis Treadway, Charlie Miller, Gary Peterson, John Caudle, several nieces and nephews, and his lifelong companion, “Tippy” dog.

Funeral services for Mr. Shook will be held Friday, May 9, 2014, at 7:00 pm from the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Craig Shelton will officiate. Special music will be provided by Marlin Hensley and Reverend Craig Shelton; and Craig T. Shelton and the Sweetwater Trio. Pallbearers selected by the family are Dennis Treadway, Ben Brackins, Charlie Miller, John Caudle, Bill Pate, and Scott Crain. Blake Tipton will serve as honorary pallbearer.

The family of Mr. Shook will receive friends prior to the funeral service between the hours of 5:00 to 7:00 pm and other times at the residence. The committal service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, May 10, in Evergreen Cemetery. Those attending the service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:00 am Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery.
