Brenda Grindstaff Hensley, age 66, of Erwin, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Franklin Woods Community Hospital. She was a native of Unicoi County and a daughter of the late Avery and Jennie Murdock Grindstaff.
Mrs. Hensley held a Master of Education degree from East Tennessee State University and she made her carrier as a teacher. She was a member of Phi Delta Kappa and the Tennessee Education Association.
She was a lifelong member of Evergreen Free Will Baptist Church where she taught the 2- to 3-year-old Sunday School Class for 35 years. She loved to garden, but her true passion was her love for all children.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a sister: Virginia Edwards; brother: Bill and his wife Jean Grindstaff; nephew: David Grindstaff; step-brothers: Howard and Oscar Grindstaff and step-sister: Ennis Tapp.
Survivors include her husband of 39 years: James W. Hensley Sr.; brothers: Bob and Eleanor Grindstaff of Erwin, Jim and Betty Grindstaff of Port Clinton, Ohio; niece: Connie and Charles Miller of Erwin; special nieces and nephews: Dr. Charles and Heather Miller of Unicoi, Chance Miller of Erwin, Rocky and Ana Grindstaff of Little Elm, Texas, Jeff and Angie Grindstaff of Kingston, Tenn., Debbie and Jim Armstrong of Nashville; step-children: Pam and Harmon Strickland of Marion, N.C., Betty Carmack of Morganton, N.C., James and Debbie Hensley of Morganton, N.C., Brenda Henning of Swannanoa, N.C., Edward Hensley of Norway; and sister-in-law: Evelyn Grindstaff of Erwin.
A funeral service will be held at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Evergreen Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Beven officiating. Special music will be provided by Mary Bennett and Pastor Billy Beven. The family will receive friends at Evergreen Free Will Baptist Church on Tuesday from 6 p.m., until service time.
A graveside committal service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Evergreen Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be George Hemphill, Tyrrell Anders, Walter Harris, David Harris, T. J. White, James Necessary, Tim Ray and Jason Holcomb.
