Bonnie Willis Edwards

Bonnie Willis Edwards, age 102, Coffee Ridge Community, Erwin, went to her heavenly home on Friday, October 24, 2014. She was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and daughter of the late Perry and Ardillia Foster Willis. Bonnie was the second of seven children. Virginia, the oldest sister died in 1912, the year Bonnie was born. Bonnie enjoyed living on the farm and doing her work. She loved to cook, make quilts and read good books. Bonnie is well known as the best apple pie baker. She shared her life in two books; Willis Cove Through The Eyes of Miss Bonnie and Precious Memories. Miss Bonnie lived a healthy clean and devoted life. She loved the Lord and she loved her family. She had been a member of the Coffee Ridge Baptist Church since 1930 where she had served as Sunday school teacher and a member of the choir. Other than her parents, her husband Joe who passed away in 1981, and her sister, Virginia, Bonnie was predeceased by a son, Reubin Edwards; two daughters and three sons-in-law, Atlas and Bill Hensley, Pearl and Carroll Rice and Harvey Franklin, Sr, a brother Robert Willis, sisters, Mattie Bullman , and Pauline Tipton.

Bonnie leaves behind to cherish her memory, a son, Dorsey Edwards and wife, Linda, of Erwin; two daughters, Arnetta Bennett and husband, Hoyt of Burnsville, NC and Janie Franklin of Marshall, NC; two sisters, Matilda McIntosh of Burnsville, NC and Ida Edwards of Erwin; daughter-in-law, Annie Edwards; grandchildren, Billy, Gary, Darrell, Russell, Timothy, Phyllis, Paulette, Carroll, Jr., Charles, Reba, Stephen, Amber, Harvey Jr., Bradley, Stuart, Cindy, and Chrystal; and several great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

The family of Bonnie Edwards will receive friends Saturday, October 25, 2014, from 5:00 P. M. to 8:00 P. M. at the funeral home. Funeral service will be held Sunday at 2:00 P. M. from the Coffee Ridge Baptist Church. Reverend Homer Tweed and Reverend Harold Lewis will officiate. Eulogy will be given by the grandson, Harvey Franklin, Jr. Music will be provided by the Coffee Ridge Baptist Church Choir, Sue Story and Valerie Barcel. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Committal service will follow in the Polly Edwards Cemetery.
