Bob R. Harris, age 60 of 115 Lester Harris Road, Erwin, went to see his Savior on Thursday, March 6, 2014, following a massive heart attack at his home.
An Erwin native, Bob was the son of Worley and Nellie Bailey Harris. He had been an Environmental Tech at Specialty Hospital. A member of Ninth Street Baptist Church, he attended Lighthouse Too at two with his wife, the former Carolyn Lewis.
He had a busy life appearing in both Documentary and Big Screen films, re-enactments and volunteering. He appeared in the films, The River starring Mel Gibson and Sissy Spacek, Miss Fourth of July starring Louis Gossett, Jr., and appeared in an episode of In the Heat of the Night, which starred Carroll OConnor. He founded and directed the Unicoi Heritage Players, for whom he wrote and starred in their most successful play the Ballad of Hog Greer. He had been a volunteer Cub Scout Leader, an assistant Cub Master and a Red Cross volunteer. Past president of the Unicoi County Historical Society, he has also sat on the board of directors of the Heritage Museum. He had been a member of the Company of Over Mountain Men, the Tennessee Frontiersmen and spent 25 years in the Tennessee State Historical Outdoor Drama, Liberty. He was the recipient of the 1983 Outstanding Young Men of America Award and the 1983 award for the Distinguished Service of the Erwin Jaycees.
A devoted husband and father, he is survived by his wife Carolyn Stormi Harris, the former Carolyn Lewis, one daughter, Angelia Shananaquet, MI, and 2 sons, Jeremy White, of Johnson City and Kenneth Harris of the home, one granddaughter, Ashley, of MI, and one grandson, Raven, of MI. He is also survived by 2 brothers, W. Douglas Harris and wife, Patty, Unicoi, and David W. Harris and wife, Carolyn, Lamar, 2 nieces, 1 great nephew, 1 great niece, 1 great great nephew, and some very special friends, Mr. Bill Cooper, Mr. Buddy Johnson, Reverend Ralph Crass, Reverend Travis Holloway, Mr. Jerry Huskins, Mr. Ronnie Tapp, Mr. Chad Bogart and Mr. Lynn Bradshaw.
A committal service will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at 11:30 AM at Fishery Community Church Cemetery with a Colonial Era Salute of a Fallen Comrade. Reverend Travis Holloway will officiate.
