Billy Joe “B.J.” Moore, 85, of Erwin, passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at the Unicoi County Long Term Care Center. He was a native of Lookout, Kentucky and a son of the late Earley Lawrence and Rhoda Ann Ratliff Moore. B.J. served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. Moore moved to Erwin in 1960 to work as an Accountant with NFS. He later served as Business Manager for Milligan College and retired as office manager for the former C.E. Refractories. B.J. was a member of the Erwin Kiwanis where he served on the Board of Directors, was a former Vice President and served as President. He was involved with City Government, where he served as Alderman and Vice-Mayor. He was a Vice President with Appalachian Christian Organization and was the secretary and treasurer for the former Medicine Shoppe. Mr. Moore was a member of First Christian Church where he served as an elder for over 50 years, Sunday school teacher, was a choir member and also served in various other duties. In addition to his parents, B.J. is preceded in death by brothers, Bobby Gene Moore and Kenneth Alden Moore. Billy Joe “B.J.” Moore has left behind to cherish his memories: Wife: Betty Salyer Moore of Erwin; Sons: Billy Joe “Jody” Moore, Jr. and wife, Angela of Erwin, Steven Tracy Moore and wife, Becky of Erwin; Brother: William Jefferson Moore; Sisters: Ella Mae Kitchen Shirley Persinger Linda Carol Lett Grandchildren: Spencer Logan Moore, Marisa Shay Moore, Troy Peyton Moore, Carson Elizabeth Moore, Claire Renee Moore, Hillary Christine Edwards, and Garret Lee Edwards The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Billy Joe “B.J.” Moore in a funeral service to be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at First Christian Church, 307 S. Main Ave., Erwin, TN 37650. Dr. William Gwaltney and Dr. Todd Edmondson will officiate. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 12:00 noon and continue until service time at First Christian Church on Wednesday. A committal service will follow at the Mausoleum Chapel of Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Hospital, Attn: Memorial Dept., 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or First Christian Church Booster Class, 307 S.
