Billy D. Thomas, age 80, Otter Creek, Fla., died on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at his home. Mr. Thomas was a native of Mars Hill, N.C., a former resident of Flag Pond, and son of the late Ratha and Laura “Fay” Silver Thomas.
He was a proud Korean War veteran serving in the U.S. Army Military Police in Paejon, Korea. He received the United National Medal, Korean Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Jack Thomas Sr., and three sisters, Lillian Shelton, Laura Hill, and Verlye Waldrup.
Survivors include three sons: Ronald Thomas and wife Melinda, Otter Creek, Fla., Russell Thomas, Otter Creek, Fla., and Billy Thomas and wife Karla, Wapakoneta, Ohio; four grandchildren: Jody and husband Josh Stevely, Wapakoneta, Ohio, Nicole Schroeder, Wapakoneta, Ohio, Russell McCafferty, Lima, Ohio, Heather and husband Ben Hendiricks, Ft. Campbell, Ky., Five Great grandchildren: Conner and Cameron Schroeder, Wapakoneta, Ohio, Makaylee, Makenzee, and Ben Hendiricks, Jr., Ft. Campbell, Ky.; stepmother: Frankie Mellon, Flag Pond; two stepsisters: Eula Mae Blankenship, Flag Pond, and Elaine Briggs, and husband Phillip, Flag Pond; step-grandchildren: Edward, B.J., Annalisa, and Thomas, Otter Creek, Fla., and several nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service will be held in the Spring.
