Betty Jane Morledge Grindstaff, age 88, Briggs Street, Unicoi, passed away early Monday morning, Feb. 21, 2011, at Unicoi County Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Grindstaff was born in Canton, Ohio, but lived most of her life in Unicoi County. She was the daughter of the late Howard and Clara Lilley Morledge.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and MaMaw.
Mrs. Grindstaff was a member of Unicoi United Methodist Church.
Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by husband, John Truman Grindstaff Sr.; two sons, Howard S. Grindstaff and Michael E. Grindstaff; granddaughter, Brittany Suzanne Grindstaff; one brother, Howard Morledge Jr.; four sisters, Dorothy Kropp, Merriam Shinkle, Joelline Arnold and Janice DeStefano.
Mrs. Grindstaff is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John Truman, and Nancy Jane Grindstaff, of Unicoi; daughter-in-law, Sharron Rutledge Grindstaff, Johnson City; four grandchildren, Maggie Lynn Fair, Michael Drew Grindstaff, Jonathan Brody Grindstaff, and Kalyn Elizabeth-Jane Grindstaff; two great grandchildren, Nicholas Lee Fair and Hannah Bea Fair; several nieces and nephews; two special friends, Mrs. Louise Jones, of Unicoi and Mrs. Hazel Wilson, of Unicoi.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. service time Wednesday, Feb. 23, at the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Travis Lusk will officiate.
Music will be provided by Jimmie Street, soloist and Inez Chandler, pianist. Active pallbearers selected by the family will be Michael Drew Grindstaff, Jonathan Brody Grindstaff, Lester Cannon, Mark Hopson, Doug Hopson, and Jim Grindstaff. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Arnold, Mike Arnold, and Rick Adams.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:15 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, to go in procession to Peterson Cemetery for the committal service beginning at 11 a.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
