BETTY ANN JOHNSON

Betty Ann Johnson, age 73, of Unicoi, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, after an automobile accident. She was a native of North Carolina and a daughter of the late Billie and Della Peterson.
Mrs. Johnson was born and lived in Poplar, N.C., before moving to Erwin in 1955. She worked many years as a Produce Manager for White’s Supermarket in Erwin and previously at Raytheon, TPI and Giant Food Market. She and her husband moved to Marietta, Ga., where she retired after working many years as a Deli Manager for Winn-Dixie and Harris Teeter.
Mrs. Johnson and her husband then moved back to their farm in Unicoi, where she continued to work at Jones & Church Farms where she had so many special friends.
She was of the Baptist faith, and loved the Lord and all the beauty that He put on this earth. She went non-stop, and so full of energy. She loved her flower gardens, yard work, decorating, enjoyed her swimming pool, her dogs; Princess and Sammy and she loved joy riding in her BMW convertible.
She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was very compassionate caring and loving to all. She never met a stranger.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a sister: Phyllis Peterson; brothers: Euphratis, Eugene and Robert Lee Peterson.
Survivors include her loving husband of 32 years, Jackie R. Johnson; four sons: Billy White, Unicoi, Raymond White, Unicoi, Allen Johnson and fiancé, Mindy Peterson, Unicoi, Chad Johnson and wife Amanda, Unicoi; two daughters: Susan Gardner and boyfriend Greg Hopson, Jonesborough, Gina Jenkins, Memphis; grandsons: Sean Gardner and Paul Johnson of Unicoi; five granddaughters: Sara Gardner Trussell and husband Andrew, Korea, Amanda White, Ashley White and Jessica Johnson Dugger, all of Elizabethton, Jennifer Jenkins Norton, Marietta Ga.; great-grandson: Peyton Thomas Trussell; brother: Robert “Kermit” Peterson and wife Patsy, Erwin; sister: Dorothy “Dot” Dowlin and husband Tom, Coatsville, Penn.; mother-in-law: Deleta Johnson, Powder Springs, Ga.; sister-in-law: Sara Jo Truman and husband Roy, Powder Springs, Ga.; several nieces and nephews; special friends: Carolyn and Kyle Mcinturff, Terri Miller and Reanna Miller, Margaret “Coby” Ingram, Teresa Bennett and Sabastian Bennett, Peggy and Curtis Hankla, Velma Chambers and Helen Kutch, both of Marietta, Ga.
A Celebration of Life was conducted at 8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 16, in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home. The Rev. Alex Carver officiated.
The graveside service was held on Thursday, Jan. 17, at 11 a.m., at Tolley Cemetery located in Unicoi.
Pallbearers were Glenn White, Robert Peterson, Matt Peterson, Tim Peterson, Craig Peterson, Ray White and Eddie Morris.
