Bessie Beatress Depew Powers

Bessie Beatress Depew Powers, Age 84, 301 Powers Road, Unicoi, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2014, in the Center on Aging, Erwin. She had lived most of her life in Unicoi and was a daughter of the late Samuel and Jane Hardin Depew. Mrs. Powers was a certified nursing assistant and had worked for t he Appalachian Christian Village and The Asbury Center. Also, she worked in maintenance for the U. S. Forest Service. She was a member of the Unicoi Church of God. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Artest Hester Powers on August 16, 2006, and a brother, Clyde Depew.

Mrs. Powers leaves behind to cherish her memory two sons, Michael Powers and wife, Roxie of Belview, FL and Wayne Powers of Unicoi; one daughter Suzie Adkins and husband, Floyd, of Jonesborough; six grandchildren, Wayne Powers, Jr., and wife, Heather, of Erwin, Angie Pearell and husband, Shawn, of Unicoi, Gary Adkins and wife, Tara, and Larry Adkins all of Johnson City, Shane Powers and Michelle Powers, both of Belview, FL; seven great grandchildren, Chloe Powers, Corbin Powers, Brittni Pearell, Justin Pearell, Seth Adkins, Devin Adkins, and Selisa Adkins; several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends at the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, December 19, 2014, from 12:00 noon until service time at 1:30 P. M. Reverend Bill Ponder will officiate. Music will be provided by Inez Chandler, pianist. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Graveside service will follow in the Mountain Home National Cemetery.
